The former Aalto University School of Art and Design and the Department of Architecture of the School of Engineering have merged to form the School of Arts, Design and Architecture. The key areas of research in the school are design, digital media, audiovisual representation, art, visual culture, well-being architecture and emerging technologies, and urban planning and design.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN DESIGN INTEGRATION (Tenure Track position)
The assistant professor in Design Integration will focus on practices through which design interacts with business management, product development, and other disciplines where design can create new solutions and value. The work requires advanced command of relevant academic research. In addition the post entails expertise in design management and leadership in the global business environment, accomplishing high impact cross-disciplinary educational projects, and/or initiating new forms of disciplinary and professional integration.
The candidates shall have a doctoral level degree on an applicable field. They will be reviewed based on research output, teaching merits and service to the academic, societal and business community. In recruiting on the assistant professor level attention will be paid on future potential in addition to proven merits.
The professorship will be positioned in the Department of Design. However, the professor's teaching and research shall take place on the cross disciplinary platforms of Aalto University, especially the International Design Business Management (IDBM) program.
The Department of Design is an internationally acknowledged design education and research unit. The department has a team of 40 researchers and about 700 students most of which study on post graduate level. Its research foci are human centered design, cultural design research and sustainable design. Recent evaluation has rated its research on leading international level in quality and impact (http://design.aalto.fi/en/) (www.aalto.fi/en/research/rae/).
The International Design Business Management program (IDBM) is a joint teaching and research platform of the Aalto University. Its purpose is to develop world-class expertise in global design business management through multidisciplinary research and learning that cuts across the areas of business, design and technology. The IDBM program emphasizes the importance of design as a competitive factor, linked with state-of-the-art technology and business models (http://idbm.aalto.fi/).
