Peter, while you are tired of people challenging ideas that you believe should be known or accepted, I am frustrated at well attended ideas in design being ignored. Yes, design literature is more scattered than desired, we know it is a problem. I hope you don't mind me saying this, In my opinions, OUR most serious scholars and researchers in design are of two types: One trained in a field outside of design and has a strong grasp and thus appreciation of design literature, past and present. The other trained as designer and learns from other fields to advance design. A third type is emerging: trained as a Design PhD. They are serious because they engage with the design literature, however inadequate that it might be...that is what we have to work upon to build a field. You know, i believe, one of the major reasons why design has not advanced more quickly is that there are not more of these scholars and researchers.
You know what I find funny about Vergarti writing for Design Issues? His idea of Design Driven Innovation is based on research on certain design practice and literature and consultation with design scholars and designers. Now, he turns around and tells us what he has learned from us. If the paper will be published in Design Issues. I will write a reply with references to design literature. Promise.
Best, Rosan
