I don't have any literature to hand BUT I could point you to an interesting area...
The identity of the Republic of Ireland was reviewed and reworked by the state back in the 70's with the government wishing to give the people renewed vigour in their country. The coinage was reworked, the postal system An Post, and many other areas - especially with the reasoning that design would bring the country to the forefront of Europe rather than see it as a dull green backwater. Kilkenny Workshops were set up with the great thinkers of Irish design - Padraig Harrington for example - ensconced within its confines.
Perhaps Declan McGonagle of National College of Art and Design in Dublin would be of help.
