Dear Jeremy,
You’ve said a great deal of what matters in a few short words: “...
they should not have to be asked, they should just do it and not assume
that anyone else is using a client like theirs. If they want their text
to be read, it would probably best to make it reasonably readable to
others. it is just common netiquette to make your email as readable to
everyone as you can, that is after all the norm. to take the opposite
position is basically saying that people should conform to your
preference, which is fine of course, we all prefer to do what is best
for any single member of the community, and not what is best and most
readable for all.”
One should not have to ask people to write reasonably readable notes to
the list.
In a choice between netiquette and technology, netiquette makes more
sense. Netiquette works across more platforms than any single technology
seems to do.
Yours,
Ken
