This is an 18 month post for a relatively experienced researcher to be the lead reviewer on an NIHR HTA-funded evidence review to evaluate the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of supported self-management for patients with moderate to severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The first part of the project focuses on patients recently discharged from hospital following an acute exacerbation of their condition. The second part will focus on identifying the features and elements of self-management interventions which are most effective and may involve sub-group analysis, meta-regression and mixed-treatment comparison meta-analysis.
The post-holder is expected to take a lead role in the co-ordination and delivery of the systematic review. The researcher appointed will work to the Principal investigators and with other members of the team. He/she will work closely with a second reviewer, information specialist, health economist, statistician and administrative assistant. They will work with the investigators to develop the methodology of the study and liaise with appropriate University/NHS advisors.
The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the writing of publications for peer-reviewed journals and the departmental teaching load.
