The answer to both your questions would be a qualified NO. But given that we are talking about a practice that is based on accumulated craft know-how and agreed social practices, it rather falls outside the realm of scientific proof. As the references I cited make clear, the contribution of science to this field is limited for compelling reasons. By contrast, the contribution of design, design research and design methods have been substantial.
