medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Hi,
Can anyone suggest a comparandum for a French calendar, said to have accompanied a book of hours,
from c. 1450? It has names for every day, most of which I can figure out but have occasional probelems with
the minims in names of unfamiliar saints (and the calendar is in French, not Latin.) Also, to my great
embarasment I have forgotten the precise significance of the first column which contains roman numerals, though not for all dates, from about 1 to 30. Something to do with easter tables I am guessing, and if so, the precise numbers
will presumably be different depending on when the easter table in question starts.
Also, this ms has for each month notes that "january has 31 days. the moon 30 days" at the top, and "the day has 8 hours, the night 16" at the bottom. All this makes sense except for the bit about the moon! Any help will be appreciated.
