Dear Don, Ken David, Gunnar and everyone,
Thank you for your comments. I feel heartened by the amount of energy put
into this issue.
I am currently travelling in Malaysia for a few more days and I look forward
to responding on return.
Best wishes,
Terry

Thank you Terry for correcting my simplistic, out-of-date view of the worlds
of design and engineering.
I apologize for not keeping current. My excuse is that I only interact with
and teach in small, local universities that evidently do not keep up with
the times. For example, Stanford, in the little city of Palo Alto,
California, USA and Northwestern, in the equally little city of Evanston,
Illinois, USA. And MIT in the smal city of Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.
Also KAIST, in the slightly larger city of Daejeon, S. Korea.
My colleagues that I discuss these issues with at the National Academy
ofEngineering in the medium-sized city of Washington, DC, USA, are equally
backward.
My apologies. I will try to educate myself to keep up with the times.
And keep away from those complaining, old-fashioned colleagues in the NAE.
Don
