Call for Applications!
The Council for European Studies invites eligible graduate students to apply
for the 2012 CES Pre-Dissertation Research Fellowships. Each
fellowship includes a $4,000 stipend, travel support for attending and
presenting at the CES International Conference for Europeanists, and
the opportunity to publish in Perspectives on Europe, a bi-yearly journal of
the Council for European Studies.
The Council offers three different pre-dissertation research fellowships,
all designed to support early dissertation research on topics in European
Studies:
The first of these is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, which each
year supports twenty fellowships for young scholars engaged in researching a
range of topics in European Studies.
The second is funded by the Luso-American Foundation, which each year
supports the pre-dissertation research of one young scholar focusing
specifically on Portuguese Studies.
And the third is funded by the Society for the Anthropology of Europe, which
provides one fellowship each year in support of the pre-dissertation
research of a promising young anthropologist of Europe.
Eligibility: CES Pre-Dissertation Fellowships are intended to fund a
student’s first major research project in Europe, thus, graduate students
who have already engaged in extensive field work and study in Europe are not
eligible. Likewise, applicants must be in the early, exploratory stage of
their research; late-stage ABD students are not eligible. Also, applicants
are expected to have already finished the majority of their doctoral
coursework and must be currently enrolled in a doctoral program at a
university that is a member of the Council for European Studies’ Academic
Consortium. Students whose universities are not currently members of the
CES consortium are welcome to apply, and every effort will be made to enroll
the institution in the CES member consortium and, thus, establish the
student's eligibility.
*Applications are due (along with all supporting materials) on or
before February 1, 2012. *
