Karen
I worked here in Brazil, for ten years, for a media company which uses urban
furniture to spread their advertising information. Formerly an English
Company [Adshel], later bought by Clear Channel a huge American Corporation,
it has to submit in bids by this kind of documentation. I had manage the
development of this job by other design office and had develop others in my
office.
Now, I am a teacher and I am not working in projects any more. I use this
kind of documents to explain my students all the issues we have to deal in
bids, especially those products for public use, such as urban furniture.
When a company is competing with others for the placement of street
furniture in a specific city, it must show all the points that interfere
with this action, including: company profile, the design project that is
being presented for that city, as the company proposes to manage the
advertising, the installation of the furniture in the city, furniture and
maintenance costs throughout the operation... As for the design project, in
most cases, local governments require the typology of street furniture, some
detailing, structural calculations, terms of manufacture and installation
project and how to manage the disposal material. It is an interesting
example of an interdisciplinary design project.
It can be a good idea to research in municipalities that have had bids
involving design. Often the bid books are quite interesting.
Hope this example will help you.
Kind regards
Bitiz Afflalo
