Dear Colleagues,
Yes, we're shortly to implement the NICE guidelines, following an audit of 1200 of our NTproBNP results and subsequent Echo reports to reassure ourselves that none of the patients with confirmed LV dysfunction had an NTproBNP below the cut-off of 400 ng/L. We have also discussed the changes with our Cardiologists, who haven't seen an increase in Echo demand since the inception of NTproBNP, and could see a reduction post implementation of the NICE guidance. Best wishes,
Liz

Subject: Re: BNP testing primary care
Oxfordshire has just (October 2011) implemented a policy for this, that includes:
* Use of BNP assay early in the pathway
* Heavy dependency on the computerised requesting system in primary care
* Lots of audit
* Consistency with NICE guidelines
But it's too early to say how it's going.
