Dear Colleagues,
We would like to draw your attention to the session "Micromechanics of
fault processes: microstructural observations, numerical modelling,
and microseismology " TS2.1/EMRP2.7 at EGU 2012, taking place in
Vienna 22-27th April.
We are pleased to have as invited presenters:
Elisabetta Mariani (University of Liverpool)
Bretani Heron & Judith Chester (Texas A & M University)
André Niemeijer (Utrecht University)
André Niemeijer is the recipient of the 2012 Outstanding Young
Scientist Award from the Tectonophysics division of EGU, and will make
his award lecture during our session.
Abstract submission can be made through the EGU website, the deadline
is 17th January.

TS2.1/EMRP2.7
Micromechanics of fault processes: microstructural observations,
numerical modelling, and microseismology
In recent years, several advances have been made in the understanding
of processes at the micro-scale in active fault zones. Drilling
programs in active faults have recovered samples with unprecedented
quality. New field and laboratory observations allow characterizing at
higher time and space resolutions a variety of chemical and physical
processes at work in seismic or aseismic fault zones. New numerical
approaches (discrete or continuous) help analyzing the field and
laboratory observations and propose predictive tools for faulting
processes. This interdisciplinary session aims to bring together
geologists and geophysicists interested in the field, laboratory and
numerical studies of deformation processes and the resulting
structures in fault zones such as, damage, microfracturation, grain
comminution and cataclasis, pressure solution creep, foliation
development, healing and fault re-strengthening, slow and fast slip
and their acoustic emission signals.
Convenors: Francois Renard, Nicola De Paola, Julie Richard, Steven Smith
