Off-list, I asked Lynne Murphy for any tips she had on this topic; Lynne is an American who works at the University of Sussex, writes the excellent and successful Separated By A Common Language blog about linguistic and cultural differences
http://separatedbyacommonlanguage.blogspot.com/
and is married to a Brit. She's a semanticist, though, so not on this list. Lynne's tips were Kate Fox's work (which Dorothy refers to), and also Milton & Bennett's 'American Cultural Patterns' - her 'go-to books for anthropological perspectives on what shapes identity in the two countries'. Thanks!
