This is fascinating John. Although they do not look like medieval
peacock feathers, this must certainly reflect medieval custom. The
6th-century Riha Flabellum, made of silver, has peacock feathers
incribed on it. A not very good image of it can be found here:

The Diocese of Paderborn has a very nice peacock-feather one still used
in connection with its cult of St. Liborius. Here it is, in a
photograph from this past July, fixed upright behind Liborius' reliquary
