Sorry for cross-posting.
With the increasing spread of barcode-enabled Self Service kiosks in
retail outlets - I've personally seen Tesco, B&Q, M&S and WH Smith of
late - I note that 'floor walking' staff are carrying a small, circular
contact dongle (which I assume is a contact Smartcard) on a curly lead,
to allow them to 'break in' to kiosks to aid users in trouble.
I've also noticed this in some pubs (hic...) where the staff seem to use
it to log in to the tills, and can 'freeze and store' transactions
whilst staff swap quickly between tills and customers.
But I've not seen this on any Library Kiosk, nor on any Library counter
PC.
So:
* Are any of the RFID Self-Service providers keeping up with the retail
Barcode kiosks?
* Are any LMS suppliers using this to facilitate quick unique staff
logins on whatever counter PC's remain (and to keep them secure on
'Pods) as Self-Service rolls out
Any thoughts?
