I would like to send apologies to anyone who received a distress email
from me. I was supposed to be stranded in Barcelona and was asking for
1500 euros.
This of course was a scam. My e-mail system was invaded.
To prevent others from falling into the same trap here is how it happened.
Gmail have been offering me an update for a while, finally I had the
time to do this . As soon as I had finished the upgrade I received an
e-mail telling me to click the attached gmail site where I was asked
to log in to restart my gmail. I now suspect that this was a cloned
page so I gave someone my password.
They then sent out the Barcelona message to all 750 of my contacts and
reset my password. They also diverted all my incoming mail to
[log in to unmask]
So if you update your gmail be warned. Also if you regularly write to
me please check that I am not now held in your contacts at the ymail
address
After 8 days google have rescued my account but I have had to reset
it as my emails were still being diverted. I have now found all the
emails I received whilst offline are in my trash list. (they include
over 200 out of office replies! in about 20 different languages)
Thanks to all the people who took the trouble to ring and check if all
was Ok. Its nice to know that the library service is such a caring
profession.
