Imola, it looks to me like a hind splint bone from a horse, i.e. one of
the small metatarsals. It is not the stylohyoid bone of either horse or
cow. The top of the bone appears to have been pretty well chewed, as by a
dog. Larger pictures would help! -- Deb Bennett
> Dear Zooarchers,
> I've come across a fragment that seems most unusual to me and I could very

> Some of you have already seen it in person, but as you know, we still
> couldn't decide for sure what it might be.
> The piece was discovered in a pit from the end of the Early Iron Age, at
> Vlaha, Romania, alongside "usual" species: cattle, sheep and pig.
