Dear Zooarchers -- I'm at the Uversity of Kansas Museum of Natural History
this month to work on the Vindolanda birds. Our bird osteological
collection here at KU is very fine and has a good representation of
European species BUT there is one glaring omission -- we don't have a
Capercallie skeleton and we only have part of a Black Grouse.
I'm really hurting for lack of ability to make the direct comparisons -- I
especially need carpometacarpus, coracoid, femur, tibiotarsus, and
tarsometatarsus.
Can someone direct me to images of these species/bony elements on the Net
or in the Zooarch network? Or can someone send me a PDF of a paper that
has good pictures of one or more of these elements? If I can't find images
in the ether, we will have to make arrangements to borrow specimens.
Thanks very much! -- Deb Bennett
