Call for Papers for International Conference on Design Creativity 2012,
Location: Glasgow
Dates: 18-20 September 2012
Website: http://www.icdc2012.org.uk
Deadline for submission: 9 March 2012

The 2nd International Conference on Design Creativity (ICDC 2012) will
take place on 18.-20.09.2012 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Design Creativity is an important and interesting topic of study in design.
Since it involves the profound and essential nature of design,
design creativity is expected to be a key in not only addressing the
social problems that we are facing, but also producing an innate
appreciation for beauty and happiness in our minds. In order to elucidate
the nature of design creativity, the following issues are being studied:

   - Cognitive processes underlying design creativity
   - Computational models of design creativity
   - Practical processes to incorporate the human and social dimensions

Persuasive Technology is a stimulating interdisciplinary research field
that focuses on how interactive technologies and services can be designed
to change people’s attitudes and behaviors. Influenced by areas such as
classic rhetoric, social psychology and ubiquitous computing, researchers
in this field are typically designing applications for domains such as
health, business, safety, and education. The 7th International Conference
on Persuasive Technology (Persuasive 2012) will build on the successful
prior conferences held at Eindhoven, Stanford, Oulu, Copenhagen, Claremont,
and Columbus. The conference will feature the latest insights into how
mobile and internet-based applications such as mobile games and social
networking sites can be designed to influence behaviors, thoughts, and
feelings. The conference is expected to gather researchers, practitioners,
and students who are interested in networking, presenting, discussing
and reflecting on central themes associated with persuasive computing and
design.

Objectives:
Signs and symbols are one of the possible safety precaution measures
that can be taken to attempt to reduce accidents and injuries in workplaces
and public areas. They are also used to deliver regulations,
directions, navigations and guidance in all locations and all sectors where
the public has access. In this book, we aim at gathering the latest
research and case studies on the design, evaluation, planning and
management of signs and symbols in workplaces and public areas. Readership
is international and includes professionals like academics, ergonomists,
designers, health and safety specialists, organizational psychologists,
facilities practitioners, and urban and infrastructure planners would be of
interest. The book is also aimed at advanced undergraduate and postgraduate
students who are taking a course in information design and facilities
management. The book will be organized in self-contained chapters to
provide greatest reading flexibility.

In recognition of the importance of continuing contributions to Interior
Design’s History as well as IDEC’s (Interior Design Educators Council), the
Journal of Interior Design anticipates a special issue to be published in
2013. This issue intends to bring together new and important research on
the history of interior design, its practitioners, and development as a
profession. JID invites scholarly research papers for consideration in the
special issue.

Contributors are asked to submit full papers and abstracts on
themes relating to Interior Design’s past. Papers can focus on, but are
not limited to, contributions of past and present individuals and
firms; significant interiors and furnishings; and various interior
design processes such as education, professional development,
professional organizations, or preservation. Authors may present
empirical research, theory, or issues-oriented papers that advance the body
of knowledge in interior design’s history.

Virtual worlds (VW) embody cultures, their artefacts, and their praxes;
these new and old spaces of imagination and transformation allow humans to
interact in spatial dimensions. Within these spaces, culture manifests with
the creation, representation, and circulation of meaningful experiences.
But virtual worlds are not novel in that regard, nor should we make the
mistake to assume that they are novel in themselves. Virtual experiences
have been around in some respect for hundreds of years, and virtual worlds
based in information technology have existed for at least 40 years. The
current generation of virtual worlds, with roots over four decades old in
studies of virtual reality, computer supported cooperative work (CSCW),
sociology, cultural studies, and related topics, provide for rich and
occasionally immersive environments where people become enculturated within
the world sometimes as richly as the rest of their everyday lives.

We seek research that encounters and investigates cultures in virtual
worlds in its plurality and in its richness. To that end, we invite papers
covering the breadth of the topic of cultures in and of virtual worlds.

Theme: Technology, the Arts and Industrial Culture

The 39th ICOHTEC Symposium will be held in Catalonia in mid-July next year.
The main theme of the meeting will be Technology, the Arts and Industrial
Culture. The aim is to examine technology in a multidisciplinary framework.
The key questions are how technological development has interacted with
design, architecture, the arts as well as popular culture and whether we
can regard industrial culture as a melting pot of various influences.
Reflecting on the theme of the previous conference we hope also to explore
the role of consumers in this dialogue.

Dates: December 13–15, 2012

Deadline for proposals: 1 Feb 2012

For many design educators working in different parts of the
world today, design practice is taking place in what may be called
a transnational context. The boundaries that define the field of
higher education have become increasingly fluid, and professors,
students, programs, and curricula are moving back and forth between
distant regions of the world as never before. The design projects,
research, and institutions that result retain a unique cultural
complexity because they promote meanings and values that often transcend
the cultures and boundaries of the nations within which they originate.

The conference Geographics: Design, Education, and the
Transnational Terrain will provide international design educators the
opportunity to share examples of design projects and programs that have
been implemented within a transnational context, while allowing others
to present theoretical or reflective positions about what it means
to design within a transnational context today. The conference will also be
open to presentations from practitioners who design within transnational
contexts and who view design as a strategic framework for intercultural
collaboration and intersection. The conference will use the
term “transnational” to describe the ways in which designs moves through a
wide range of contemporary and historical geographic contexts,
including the movement of design between multiple nations and other
geopolitical entities; the movement of design between peoples who define
themselves as belonging to different geopolitical entities, regardless of
their location or national affiliation; and the movement of design against
the constraints of any particular national, international, or global
geographic construct.

OCTOBER 11, 2011

Call for Papers / Designs for the 2012 SYMPOSIUM April 20-22, 2012 at the
University of Minnesota, St. Paul.

This symposium connects fashion to the topic of health. Through a series of
scholarly presentations, panel discussions, design presentations, the
symposium participants will explore, define, and document the
interconnections between fashion and health.

The symposium has an inclusive definition of the term “fashion”. While
fashion is often understood to center on apparel choices, fashion can be
recognized as the current style or aesthetic choice in any design field.
Proposals are welcome from divergent fields such as architecture,
anthropology, cultural studies, history, interior design, graphic design,
psychology, sociology, and women’s studies.

Participation is invited in this symposium by submitting a written abstract
or a design. Best submissions will be considered for inclusion in focused
issues of journals including Fashion Practice: The Journal of Design,
Creative Process and the Fashion Industry as well as for a book Fashion and
Health.

Symposium formats will include poster sessions, concurrent individual
presentations [15 minutes], plenary sessions [60 minutes], and panel or
collaborative presentations.
