University of Missouri - Columbia announces a position in Biblical Studies within the context of the ancient Mediterranean world. The position will be filled at the tenure-track assistant professor/associate professor level. Teaching competence in both New Testament and Hebrew Bible is required, as is relevant language competence. Other relevant criteria include: evidence of excellence in teaching; superior research skills; a clearly defined research agenda; ability to contribute to the department’s methodological diversity; and potential for significant contribution to the work of the department in a public research-extensive university context. Applicants’ work should be informed by methods and theories in the academic study of religion (religious studies). Teaching responsibilities include two courses per semester and close work with undergraduate and graduate students. The courses will range from introductory undergraduate courses to master’s level graduate seminars. The appointment will begin August 15, 2012. A doctorate completed before August 2012, is expected.
