medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I believe it was not uncommon during the Middle Ages for a gallows to be
situated within church precincts. And the usual practice was to leave
felons hanging there until they rotted sufficiently to drop off. That,
in my opinion, would constitute quite an effective deterrent, although
I'm glad that we have got a bit beyond such thoroughly disgusting practices.
Cheers,
Jim
