Hello Tim,
I use heavy gauge plastic bags from
Polybags Limited, Lion Way, Greenford, Middlesex, UB6 0AG.
Tel: 020 8575 8200
Ring and ask for a catalogue and price list. They are very efficient. If you
can drive there, you can see more options and collect your order on the
spot.
You can buy almost any size increasing in 2" increments (length and
width)and in different gauges.
When you have spotted something, ask for a sample of each. Make sure you
quote the dimensions the right way round. I buy slightly larger than a I
need in order to make removal and insertion of each map easy.
I use 500 gauge which is reasonably thick but the plastic is supple. I keep
10 to 25 maps per bag. The plastic is very slippery, which eases the
insertion of a single bag of a few maps into a drawer full of maps. I use a
marker pen to identify the maps along the leading edge of the bag so that
they are easy to select while in the drawer, but of course the content is
clear to see through the bag.
With the bags I don't really need dividers. However, I have found that the
mount board for picture framing is stiff and of archival quality. I obtain
it from wholesaler (who will sell in small quantities)

Subject: Grateful for advice on dividers or folders for separating maps
stored in a map chest
Hi there
I am about to start a process of putting some of my 2000+ maps into a map
chest. This will be laying horizontally. Would anyone be able to advise me
on the best way to break the maps into smaller chunks?
I wondered about putting them into clear plastic folders but the first
company I spoke to didn't have anything suitable and it may even be the
wrong road to be going down.
An alternative would be divders but I wouldn't want anything abrasive on the
maps.
Thank you for your help
Tim
