Dear colleagues,

the proceedings of the conference "Academic foundation of learning on farms" which took place in Altenkirchen (Germany) last year are published now and online available: http://www.regionales-lernen.de/images/volume2_farm_education.pdf
Contributions from researchers from different scientific disciplines focus many aspects of farm education like school-farm co-operations, different kinds of programs, relation to social farming, education for sustainable development, implementation of innovative approaches like the storyline-method, acquisition of regional identity and shaping competence, quality development, learning strategies...

The conference in Altenkirchen 2010 was the first international meeting of the Academic Initiative on Farms as Sites of Learning on behalf of the German association "Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Lernort Bauernhof, BAgLOB*" - www.BAGLoB.de). There are further meetings and activities planed in the next year.

With the BAgLOB science initiative, we want to …

   - initiate an exchange of knowledge about scientific work on using farms as places of learning at a national and international level,
   - provide information about research topicswhich are in progress or where future research is needed, as well as
   - designate appropriate contact persons at European colleges and universities,
   - create contacts between scientists who research in the field of learning on farms, and
   - set up a relevant mailing list and a literature database

If you are interested in more information on the initiative, please don't hesitate to contact me ([log in to unmask]).

Best wishes,
Johanna Schockemöhle
