Suggest talk to your Haematologists since they will be doing the interpretation.
Ours are pretty laid back.
Beware - some analyser B12 and folate kit inserts are fussy about serum/plasma, and avoid all haemolysis.
with best wishes

We are also grappling with this issue. Did anyone respond to this? We are
somewhat belatedly trying to change from RBC to serum folate but are
concerned that this will involve taking a fasting sample. How do labs that
offer serum rather than RBC folate get around this?
Many thanks - will collate response (if there is any)

This e-mail is covered by the disclaimer found at the end of the message.
Do labs request that samples for B12 and Folate are taken from fasting
patients? If so, how do labs deal with samples that have been taken from
patients known not to have fasted? Are they rejected?
Would anybody have any references/evidence as to the effect of fasting or
not fasting on serum B12 and Folate levels?
This issue was raised back in February but there were no responses.
Thank you
Mark Lynch
