te resolvimus.
>so I can't unravel the mysteries of the /en principe/ principle, but when
confronted to such frustrating situations (Google Books showing only a
cover page), I've found using the links to "other editions" quite
helpful to find "uncatalogued" but freely available digitized books.
yes, "other editions" is useful, but the link i sent was what i got after i
hit "other editions."
bone chance, on that idea.
according to the BNF catalog, the "author" of vol. VIII of the GC is/are "les
Mauristes," the title page reading "Opera & studio Monachorum Congregationis
S. Mauri" (while Denys de Sainte-Marthe is credited with vols. I-III and
XIV-XVI are par Barthélémy Hauréau).
needless to say, a books.google.com "advanced search" (oxymoronic as that
concept may be on this site) for any variation --Latin or French-- of the
Mauristes fails to turn up any vols. of the GC whatsoever.
so *that* wasn't the way the anonymous, intrepid Wikifinder got to those links
which she so kindly posts.
one cannot help but wonder (and not for the first time) that, considering the
immense expense involved in the vast and humble project of digitizing every
single book ever published, how it is that the Googleitarians failed to
realized that some kind of workable catalog which might provide reliable (or,
indeed, any) access to what they were creating might have been a bit
advantageous.
i've said it before, and i'll say it again: this is an example (among many) of
a Grand Design thunk up by Geniuses to be executed by Morons.
> Marjorie (French, /en principe/ ;))
understood.
