So it's clear that any chemist can validate a nonstandard specimen for any analyte but why? What is the clinical use of doing cyst fluid tumor marker?

Subject: Re: Pancreatic Cyst Fluid
Colleagues,
Following on the question regarding tumour markers in pancreatic cyst fluid, does
anyone have validations of this fluid type in routine analysers. The Roche system
has non-linearity on dilution (Clin Chem 2010;56:1351, Boot et al from
Birmingham). Perhaps dilution in a low marker serum sample may work. Obviously
this would need validation.

Dear Mailbase,
Our Cytology colleagues have received a Pancreatic cyst fluid for analysis which
includes requests for CEA, Amylase & CA19-9.
Our worry is that the fluid will be too viscous for our analysers, that the kits
are for serum (and not cystic fluid) and that we do not have appropriate reference
ranges.
Does anyone offer tumour markers for this fluid type?
Secondly, they've been to a talk where it was implied that CEA/amylase/CA19-9
analysis on any mucus-looking Pancreatic cyst fluid was routine. Is this standard
practice in the UK, as all the books giving this advice are from the USA?
Thank you,
