By the same reasoning, they are probably asked for the CA125 because they are following the NICE guideline.
Or at least, because of the Guideline and the tremendous press coverage it got.
Shouldn't NICE guidelines be accompanied by the appropriate funding...?

Thanks for your replies.
The most common suggestion from your comments, is to perform pelvic ultrasound scan, but don't the GPs know this already. The fact that they have asked for CA125 to be measured means that they are following NICE CG22, so I am not sure that adding a comment like this is adding any value or indeed adding a comment that lists all possible benign and malignant causes of raised CA125.
Our standard automated comment that accompanies all CA125 results is: Please follow NICE guidance 122 for use of CA125 as a screening test for investigating possible ovarian cancer.
The reasoning behind this approach is that there is a clear NICE guidance for clinicians to follow for early detection of ovarian cancer and CA125 result is only one part of the investigative strategy.
I am sure a lot of people will beg to differ on this approach.
Best regards
Mohammad
