medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Thanks Tom,
These both look very useful! (In fact, I thought I had already ordered the first one for our library . . . wonder what went wrong?) My next question concerns the second one. The reprint advertised on Amazon appears to be the
same as the Johnson Reprint of 1965, however there is a disconcerting caveat about the possibility of blank or blurred pages, etc. Is this "par for the course"?

Excerpts of visitations in:
Pastors and the Care of Souls in Medieval England, ed. John Shinners and William J. Dohar (Notre Dame, IN: University of Notre Dame Press, 1998).
Two complete sets of records:
Visitations of Churches belonging to St. Paul's Cathedral, in 1297 and in 1458 , ed. W. Sparrow Simpson (Westminster: Printed for the Camden Society, 1895; reprint New York: Johnson Reprint Corporation).

This would interest me as well, as would any published editions of visitation records, whether to monasteries
or parish churches.

I feel I should know this but does anyone know of a convenient list of the English and Welsh abbeys that were exempt from episcopal visitation? I know of complete orders - Cistercian, Cluniac, mendicant, etc but I am interested in the individual houses of non-exempt orders that claimed this exemption.
I know that Westminster, St Albans and Bury St Edmunds made these claims and think that Glastonbury, Evesham and Waltham may also have done so but I am wondering if there is an absolute list to be found anywhere. All my obvious text books say 'houses such as' or 'including' and I would like a definitive list if one exists.
many thanks
