I'm not going to summarise this thread as I am sure (or hope) that it will live on and grow :-)
What ever term or process we use, I wonder if the important aspect is not what process (e.g. triangulation) we use but why?
For any theoretical explanation we come up with we'd like to know if it is coherent and plausible (and thus possibly nearer to the 'truth'). A check for coherence may be to look at data generated by different methods and/or from different sources - 'triangluation'.
So rather than privileging any one means of checking for coherence maybe we should employ as many as is reasonable/practical?
What other methods might we use to check for coherence and why?
