In Cambs we are SirsiDynix Symphony 3.3.1 PC1 which includes the
functionality for SIP2 activity to update the user's last activity
field. So we are covered for
* online resources - we use Ezproxy
* PC and WiFi use - Netloan and iCam
We may not be covered for e-books - we plan to use Askews and
authentication is via web services rather than SIP2
I tried to do a patron purge (lovely term) prior to our migration to
3.3.1 by doing all kinds of fancy exports from Netloan, iCam, etc and
comparing it to my list of non-active LMS users but it was disastrous
and I ended up having to reload every record I dumped.
I plan to do a purge in Dec as this will be 12 months since our move to
3.3.1 (and the associated recording of those using netloan, etc)

Subject: Loss of online-only users
Here in Westminster we're concerned about losing memberships of people
who have signed up for our online resources, and who then don't use the
libraries for borrowing books. Lack of activity on the membership
database does mean that their memberships will be purged, but they won't
be aware of it since they continue to have access to online databases.
Have any authorities found a solution to this problem? I'm aware that
some libraries require customers to log on to their opacs before having
access to online goodies (a secure referring URL). Does this solve the
problem, and are there authorities who have implemented this solution
with Sirsi-Dynix Symphony?
Any information gratefully received, and I'll share it with the list.
