Hi Lyn
What policies and procedures do you have in place for the use of
volunteers, especially young people, in your libraries?
Thanks

Hi Christine,
In Walsall we have Computer Buddies to help members
of the public on a one-to -one basis & we also have young people to help
with our Summer Reading Challenge. The role of the volunteer is purely
to HELP library staff . We don't allow them to do any of the duties of a
paid library assistant, such as shelving, accessing the library
catalogue, issue & discharge of material.
Hope this helps. Please feel free to contact me
if you wish.
Regards,
Lyn

We are looking to implement a volunteer programme and would like to hear
from other authorities as to the successes/failures/pitfalls/areas to
avoid/be aware of before we go live. Can anyone help? What do you use
volunteers for? Are they complementing the paid staff or replacing
them? Do they do add-on value for money sessions, or run the libraries?
I will summarise for the list - many thanks in advance.
