Monash University in Melbourne, Australia, has the pleasure in announcing a Masters Degree Scholarship available as the result of a partnership between the CRC for rail innovation and the Faculty of Art & Design. This exciting opportunity will suit an enthusiastic research candidate who is interested in conducting studio research in the design of objects, infrastructure and spaces associated with railway stations. The scholarship is worth approximately a tax free stipend of $23K AUD per year. Applicants must hold, or expect to hold, a bachelors degree with first class honours, or a qualification deemed equivalent, from an Australian or overseas tertiary institution. Applications will be judged on both academic and artistic merit. A strong design portfolio is required.
Monash University faculty of Art & Design has a strong track record in design for public transport, developing original and innovative design concepts and approaches to address the challenges faced in the planning of future public transport vehicles and infrastructure. The CRC for rail innovation is a collaborative venture between leading organisations in the Australian Rail Industry and Australian Universities. The aim of the collaboration is to fund and manage a wide range of research focused projects with the aim of delivering benefits for the rail industry and Australia. This particular project is focused upon station design, the objects and infrastructure that make for a pleasant, safe and economically enriching environment. The key research areas are: Shelter, lighting, passenger safety and security, universal access, bike storage and interaction, inter-modality, information, communication, way-finding systems, and amenities.
