There is increasing recognition for the need to use more rigorous processes to ensure that health care recommendations are informed by the best available research evidence. Key components of the guideline development process include issues around the guideline group, the evidence, developing the recommendations, implementation and evaluation. These processes demand systematic and transparent approaches.
This 3-day workshop will provide hands on training on the use of the GRADE approach in guideline development.
Participants will learn and practice the use of GRADE to
1. Formulate guideline questions
2. Identify patient important outcomes
3. Follow the GRADE approach to evaluate the quality of the evidence
4. Use GRADE and GRADEpro (software) to create Evidence Profiles
5. Use the GRADE approach to move from the evidence to recommendations (considering the quality of
evidence, balance of benefits and harms, patient values and preferences, and costs)
6. Develop strong or weak recommendations
Participants will also learn about different ways to implement the GRADE methodology (ideal vs ad hoc approaches); and understand how GRADE can be used in a broad range of health care settings.
This workshop is open to those interested or participating in guideline development or those defining health care policy.
