medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
It's a ring frame purse with two sewn on pouchlets. A common purse during the later part of the 15th and early 16th c. The pouchlets are for keeping money in; handy for a ferryman.

c.1490 polychromed wood figure of Christopher with what look like shells on his pouch. (They could also be money bags, but why would those be depicted there?)
