Dear Mailbase,
The attached document has just been brought to our attention by our Trust. I wondered if we are alone in not being aware of its existence until now? My main concern is section 3.2 where it seems to imply that waste liquids from analysers must not be discharged into the drains, instead it must be disposed of by specialist contractors. This would obviously have a significant impact on the lab, both logistically and financially.
As a large combined Biochemistry, Haematology and Immunology department we create hundreds of litres of liquid waste every week. One thing that the document is unclear about is analysers with permanent connections to the drains, which are not mentioned, rather than liquid waste reservoirs.
I wondered if anyone was willing to share how they have dealt with these issues?
Thanks in anticipation,
Steph
