of the received dating of this church (customarily given as 'entre 1506 et
1512'), that seems reasonable enough for a mostly 'gothic' structure
commissioned by a bishop of Toul who died in 1517. Herewith some views from
last year's 'saints of the day' notice of Medard:

different style, the portal too appears to my by no means expert eyes to fit
an early sixteenth-century date. What makes it probably later than that?
i certainly don't like that portal

in the (very) early 16th c. --or even the later 16th c.
actually, my first thought was 18th c.
just too austere and devoid of any hint of "renaissance" decoration.
the uppermost sculpture (what i can see of it) is quite strange for early 16.
c. work, the inscription certainly looks thoroughly classical (wish i could
read it --i keep seeing "ANNO DNI. MCCCC").
the lower figure, in its thoroughly classical nich, *might* display some
drapery features which *might* be consistent with such an early date;
the arch of the doorway.... perhaps very late gothic in its continuous
molding....
the discontinuous stone coursing between the portal and the facade

suggests that the portal was added later, and is certainly not integrated
structurally into the rest of the facade.
but, the upper rose --*that* i like for 1510 or so.
no traced of anything really "gothic" about that portal, save for the jambs.
otOh, the transept portal

interior,

as severe as the w. portal
exterior

a curious mixture of tracery forms in the lancets of the nave and choir.
the "Tombeau d'Hugues des Hazards situé à gauche du choeur"
http://fr.structurae.de/photos/index.cfm?JS=26529
...now, *that* i like for 1517+abit work --that's the sort of architectural
work i would expect for the portal (well, toned down a bit, perhaps).
the place is a mess.
a curious period of transition, most everywhere.
who knows what might have been going on in Toul, along about then.
certainly not me.
