I expect this is widely known by most zooarchers but deer metapodials were
often used for knuckle bone floors as in the one at Bicton House in Devon
(1839) which made use of fallow deer bones. I've mentioned this in my
recently published 'Gardens of Earthly Delight: the history of deer parks'
and referred there to 'Follies and Grottoes' by B.Jones (1989) published by
