No, we don't have a payment facility on the MFD for PN printing, payment is at the kiosk which then releases the print job to the MFD. As for not being happy with the print, they decide what to print, they can print preview it, if there's a genuine error in the physical printing we can refund, or offer a free print, it's really not complicated. As long as the kiosks are working properly it saves a huge amount of staff time.
This is not the same system that Helen was referring to however, where they do pay on the MFD with a print job number.
Our prints are all directed to the MFD, but payment is either at a kiosk, or staff mediated.

Ahh - so it's like releasing the print job by paying for it on a kiosk, but with the payment facility on the MFD via the print job number, not on the kiosk? (or as well as?)
And if the user is not happy with the print?
So it starts to get even more complicated?

No, It's in conjunction. We use a similar system in Swindon with Netloan, & our paystations for self-release printing frequently break down & we have to revert to the staff mediated print management system.

Does this approach preclude the use of the print management software (e.g. financial accounting, staff deletion, reprints etc...) currently provided by the print management facilities included in PC Booking systems used in Libraries, or can it work in conjunction with them?

Just to round up responses - Lincolnshire and Newcastle seem to be doing exactly what we want to do, which is to direct public print jobs to our leased photocopiers (MFDs). Members of the public are automatically assigned a print job number and use it to release the job, and pay for
it using the coin box on the photocopier.
If you want contact details, please let me know.
