Dear All,
Geological Society "Frontiers" conference, of more than a little
interest to geophysicists.
Regards,

Hi Sheila,
I would like to post an email to the BGA mailing list. It is regarding a conference
that may be of interest to the membership. Could you please help? The email is below.
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Hi All,
First, apologise for cross-postings.
Second, please find here a link to information regarding the first ever
Geological Society of London Frontiers meeting, which will take place at
Burlington House on Friday the 11th of November 2011:
http://www.geolsoc.org.uk/gsl/events/listings/frontiers;jsessionid=A81FF803315FAD6E80639B6EBAF85FC1.
Frontiers Meetings are 1-day meetings focused on short presentations
and discussion to explore developments in emerging geoscience areas,
followed by an open discussion forum. This year’s theme is:
‘The Coupling Between Tectonics and Surface Processes’.
Oral presentations are invited on all aspects of the coupling between
tectonic and surface processes, but we are particularly interested in
contributions from fields that are not conventionally covered at Geological
Society research meetings, and/or lie at the interfaces between different
fields. Such fields might include atmospheric physics and geotechnical studies,
while interfaces include the applications of seismology, geodesy, glaciology
and mantle geophysics to understanding tectonic drivers and the feedbacks on
those drivers. The meeting format will be somewhat different to a ‘standard’
Geological Society conference as, rather than having conventional keynote
speakers, we will have “Discussion Leaders” who will highlight
one or two keys areas for future research, which will then act as the starting
point for discussions after each block of talks. Note that the meeting is free
to attend. The abstract submission deadline is Friday the 29th of July 2011
and abstracts should be submitted to Georgina Worrall ([log in to unmask]).
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact one of the convenors
or Georgina Worrall in the Geological Society conference office.
Thanks and we hope to see you there,
