Hi Sally

Would not be able to do as Mike does, checking in all the phones. Simply too many candidates, too many rooms. However when a phone has been handed in, we use a bingo ball system. Plastic bag with bingo no written on, bingo ball in bag. Phone goes in, bingo ball given to student. Reverse system in place. Have not lost a ball and have not needed to keep a phone. (This is mandatory for all clash candidates!!)

Otherwise phones should be in bags. We do stamping on students as well (so far not on phones).

Had 3 parents phoning today whether I could move their son/daughter to a smaller room for Monday as they are anxious, one wanted her daughter to be in the big hall since daughter did not want to use the reader, and one parent asked about special consideration since daughter's boyfriend had to appear in court. Fun and games have started!

Hi sally, I have been using the following system for five years and
found it to very successful for us:

Candidates are received at the door to the exam, PHOTO ID is checked,
candidates PHONES REMOVED and SWITCHED OF, the phone is placed on a
laminated Number card (on a table next to the door) a duplicate number
card is given to the candidate. I or the invigilator informs all
candidates," return your card, get your phone, no card and the EO will
sell the phone on ebay" this works, god forbid they go without a phone
for two mins.

We have not had a phone ring in an exam yet nor had a phone go missing/
given to the wrong student. I have gained all my number cards back for
re-use,( not managed to sell a phone as yet).

Keep it simple, keep it sweet.

If you wish to talk more about this just give me a call.

Thanks

Mike

Subject: MOBILE PHONES IN EXAMS

Hi everyone

We are just looking at our policy and procedure for mobile phones in
exams, currently we ask students not to bring their mobile phones or
electronic devices to the exam but if they have to they must be put with
their personal belongings away from them in a designated place agreed by
the invigilator in the room. Sometimes students do not have personal
belongings to put the phone with so more often than not the phone is
left with the invigilator on their desk.

However we have been discussing the issue of liability if someone takes
another students mobile phone. We have been toying with the idea of
issuing raffle tickets so the number relates to the phone and we can be
sure that if a student has number 678 then this relates to that phone.
We have been discussing the issue of liability to the College or the
invigilator and would be interested to hear your views on how you manage
this at your college/school so we can advise senior managers of the
issues and potential solutions to make a decision.

Looking forward to hearing your responses soon.

Thanks

Sally
