For all those of you itching to switch off the old units in June, here's another quote to consider: "Primum non nocere".
As a part-time diabetologist, as well as lab doctor, I can tell you that %HbA1c has become hard-wired into my brain and I will forever be back-calculating from the IFCC numbers anyway. (UK members over the age of 50 will remember a similar issue with decimal money.) This affects doctors, nurses, patients and many other healthcare professionals dealing with diabetes (eg podiatrists and dietitians). There has been minimal concerted educational effort. Nobody minded us reporting the new units, because they just ignored them. Switching off the old units in June has the potential to do a great deal of harm.
I seem to remember Jonathan's quote was Macbeth's conscience speaking before he committed murder at the behest of his evil nagging wife, and things didn't work out too well for him in the end, did they?
