After five successful editions in Brazil, the 6th CIPED gains a new
dimension with its first edition on European soil, being sponsored /
organized by CIAUD – Center for Research in Architecture, Urban Planning and
Design of the FA-UTL.
The congress will take place from 10 to 12 October 2011 in Lisbon, in the
auditorium of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, with the motto “An Agenda
for Design”, seeking to assert itself as an international landmark in the
dissemination of research in the main areas of Design (Communication,
Product and fashion) but also Ergonomic Design, Inclusive Design and
Urbanity.
The 6th CIPED will feature distinguished speakers for each of the six
scientific areas, fields for which are also accepted oral and poster,
approved by the Scientific Committee on the system of Double-blind-review.
The communications will be accepted and published in the Abstract book and,
the best ones, will be published in full length as Proceedings.

Colour is a major aspect of design practice that has a long,
tumultuous history. It has been the subject of countless publications
and exhibitions about visual culture, symbolism, science, fashion,
and aesthetic meaning. By contrast, this special issue of the Journal
of Design History focuses on the work of colour practitioners, rather than
on the colours themselves.

Design practice (in all its disciplines, including architecture) is at a
crossroads. Notwithstanding the introduction of ‘sustainability’ in design
education and in commerce, design dominantly still serves the unsustainable.
To move toward ‘sustainment’ as project and process, radical and effective
action is needed. For this to happen, a dynamic, global change community of
focused thinkers, activists and leaders has to be created. This intensive
‘HotHouse’ event aims to explore the creation of this community and to be a
catalyst for its creation. It is only for the committed.
Anyone – educators, design practitioners, writers – can apply. 50 people
will be selected. The event will be conducted in English.

The fields of Mixed Reality (MR) and Augmented Reality (AR) seek to
interactively combine real and virtual objects and environments in 3D. The
basic paradigm enables fascinating new types of user interfaces, and is
beginning to show significant impact on industry and society. The field is
highly interdisciplinary, and MR/AR concepts are applicable to a wide range
of applications.
This year we are proud to present the 2011 IEEE International Symposium on
Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR 2011). The symposium will be held on Oct
26–29, 2011 at Congress Center in Basel, Switzerland.
We invite you all to participate in this great event for the exchange of new
ideas in this exciting field!
ISMAR now invites contributions in two programs: the Science & Technology
(S&T) program and a complementary Arts, Media and Humanities (AMH) program.

Korean Design Research Institute (KDRI) Invites Papers for ASIA DESIGN
JOURNAL (ADJ) 2011.
ADJ hopes to explore new Asian concepts each year through papers on
multi-interdisciplinary topics, including culture, social science,
literature, engineering, management, liberal arts and design, which deal
with Asian culture and design.
The theme of ADJ in 2011 is ‘Smart Asia’. We are living in a digital world
now. The digital technology has soaked into our life all around, making our
living much easier. Likewise, contemporary Asian design which has been
developed on the basis of the artisan’s spirit and traditional culture
stands out prominently as its traditional sagacity is appreciated. Based on
the expanded concept of ‘smartness’ along our digital time, on the 6th issue
of ADJ in 2011 we would like to explore such themes: the sensible way of
Asia discovered from Asian culture and design, the unique and wise design
interpretation and method of Asia which is been developed along with the
Smart Age, and the social system for the clever Asian way of living.

Design Research Journal is published by SVID, the Swedish Industrial Design
Foundation,twice a year and is the first Swedish scientifically oriented
journal within the field of Design Research. The purpose of the journal is
to communicate research for the benefit of the academic community as well as
practice.
DESIGN RESEARCH JOURNAL has two parts:
One part consists of research based articles and can be theoretically and/or
empiricallybased. We also welcome articles based on case studies. An
academic committee reviews the articles in a double blind reviewing process
to ensure a good academic standard. We prefer original, new
articles. Another part consists of research related reports from
conferences, research projects,interviews, reviews of thesis and other
books, news, and a calendar. These are published in Swedish.
The spring issue (no 1) has a certain theme for the research articles. No 1
2011 will have Sustainable Design as a theme.
DESIGN RESEARCH JOURNAL spring issue (no 1) is open for all themes related
to design research.
