medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
I know that Arizona is a bit far from Washington D.C., but in case you
will be in the area, there is a major exhibition opening at Dumbarton
Oaks tomorrow. Here is the announcement:
"Cross References". On view from March 26 to July 31, 2011, the Museum's
latest show explores the ‘iconic’ and multi-faceted symbol of
Christianity. Drawing on the strengths of the Dumbarton Oaks Byzantine
Collection, the emphasis of the exhibition is on devotional objects from
the late Roman period through the end of the Middle Ages. Featuring over
200 objects, including loans from national and international
institutions, "Cross References" presents, connects, and juxtaposes a
diverse selection of artwork to highlight the cross as an object, a
sign, and a motif of the Christian narrative.
Best,
Genevra
