"academic feuds, strong characters, vendettas, romance, assignations,
sex, crime, bibliomania, theft, the lot" Investigative journalism at its
best! I think I'll spend my time and energy fighting library closures
and job cuts! (In my own time of course!)
These are my own views and do not necessarily represent those of my
auhtority.

Subject: The secret life of libraries...
Apologies for cross posting.
CILIP has been contacted by a freelance journalist working for the
Observer. They're looking to do a piece about the secret life of
libraries. Their message is below:
"I've been asked by the Observer to write a piece on the secret life of
libraries. They want something on the rich alternative existence of
libraries, librarians and library users - academic feuds, strong
characters, vendettas, romance, assignations, sex, crime, bibliomania,
theft, the lot. It's not a directly campaigning piece, but by pointing
out the great humane breadth of life within the library system it should
make people more aware of what will be lost in the cuts. What I'd like
to do is meet up with a group (or several different groups) of
librarians for round- table chat about their working lives and their
best stories. Anyone reluctant to speak publicly can be given different
names to protect their identity.
Could anyone willing to speak to me from any sector of the profession
and in any part of the country please email [log in to unmask], or
call 07867 977 629, if possible before the 21st March.
Thanks and best wishes,
Bella Bathurst"
If you can help Bella, please contact her directly. Thanks.
