Hi Dominic
Thanks for this reply. Our problems don't seem to be connected to the
ads as these are appearing for us. Like you my problem with IE7
does seem to be an intermittent one - some days renders fine, others
have to scroll miles.
I was disappointed with Firefox as normally it can be relied on work
when IE7 lets me down. However have just upgraded to Firefox 4 which
is working better as only the SciVerse header and footer are
appearing as lists down rather than across page, the issue list
appears neatly beside table of contents, so at least users have much
shorter scroll before they reach the info. The same thing happens
with headers and footers on individual articles, yet main content
lays out nicely.
Yes, I suspect it is page coding problem - I have a Web developer
plugin installed in Firefox with a CSS validator - which reports many
errors when I run it against a ScienceDirect page. Also in FireFox 4
it tells you whether page is rendered in Standards compliant mode or
Quirks mode. My journal table of contents pages are rendering in
Standards compliant mode, yet individual papers are in Quirks mode.
We also have journals in Wiley Online library, so far I've had no
reports of display problems with them. The other variable is use of
EZproxy which we don't have. Our off-site access is provided via a
proxy server set up by our computing department, users set up a
browser with the parameters of this server, sign into the server,
then all our internal only pages, ejournals and database work just as
if you were using a computer within the Institute.
Kind regards
Patti
