Is anyone else having problems with the display of Tables of Content
and/or individual articles in ScienceDirect.
For last 4 months I've had users complaining that the displays not
formatting correctly in their browsers. At first I thought the issue
was limited to a small group who use Linux computers, then some
individuals using IE7 and Firefox on Windows XP had the same issues,
but it wasn't every Windows pc. I spent quite a lot of time trying to
trouble shooting between my pc which was formatting appropriately and
a colleagues which was listing file header as a list down the page,
then giving the issue list, then finally way down the page giving the
table of contents of the selected issue. I also took the problem up
with Elsevier's 'helpdesk' and didn't get any resolution.
I had hoped that the recent upgrade might remove some of these
problems, but instead things have got worse for us. On my own pc I
now experience the display problem with IE7 (unfortunately we are
barred from adopting IE8 as one of our shared systems is incompatible
with the newer version) and the latest version of FireFox (3.10).
Other browsers don't give a problem ie Chrome, Opera and Safari on
Windows, so my temporary solution is to suggest that users try these
browsers instead, but not everyone has adminstration rights on their
computer, so I will need to get my computing colleagues to implement
any solution. My on-site mac users have not reported problems, but
perhaps that is because they use Safari as browser.
So a general view to the least problematic browser for Windows and
Linux would help me make a recommendation to my computing colleagues.
Kind regards
