Many docters will make mistakes on calculating eGFR's using calculators on the internet. Which docter knows wheather the labs creatinin assay is ID-MS calibrated or not, and choose the proper formula? This week I participated in an educational session together with a nefrologist who used the wrong formula (factor 186 instead of 175). He didn't know about the different formulae.
Best regards

Department of Health guidance is quite clear that eGFR should be reported on all adult samples received by the laboratory for creatinine measurement.
I don't understand why this debate exists.

Are there any labs reporting eGFR for inpatients?
BNF does mention eGRF to adjust dosage on eGFR.
At the moment we do not report eGFR for inpatients for well known reasons but a number of our drs are calculating (from the NET) eGFR for their inpatients!
Would it better for health safety reasons to provide eGFRs for inpatients as it would be more 'accurate'?
Many thanks
Bharat
