Hello colleagues,
I went through the archive to find past discussions on the fox/dog distinction. I have seen that Terry O'Connor suggested the following two German references:
Babendererde C 1976. Vergleichende morphometrische Untersuchungen
rezenter Rotfuchse (Vules vulpes) und haushunde (Canis lupus f.
familiaris). Realschullehrer-Examensarbeit, Kiel.
Reichstein H 1984. Beitrag zur Kenntnis fruhmittelalterlicher Rotfuchse,
Vulpes vulpes (Linne 1758) aus Schleswig-Holstein. Schriften aus der
Archaologisch-Zoologischen Arbeitsgruppe Schelswig-Kiel, Heft 8.
Does anyone have any of them in pdf? I would greatly appreciate a copy.
Also back in 2000 Andy Hammon mentioned his idea of putting together some criteria. Any developments on that Andy?
I have also seen Alexey Kasparov's useful reply on that issue.
I am working on an early Bronze Age assemblage from Attica (Greece) and there seems to be some variability in canid sizes. Most of it is definitely dog but I have also identified fox and there are some specimens that I don't feel 100% sure just by using size. The good thing about it is that most specimens are well preserved and not so fragmented, which hopefully will allow me to check things biometrically.
Thank you very much,
Angelos Hadjikoumis
