Hi Clive, All,
relatively to your last question, I'm clear. In my language there is a
word "projecto" and the verb "projectar" that encompasses all
artistical/techincal previous endeavor towards the
creation/fabrication/production of the artificial. We however imported
the word Design because it made sense for some activities with disperse
designations and low social value related to what we called the applied
arts. We don't call to a power-plant project a design project.
From this it results also that the Design Profession wouldn't do it
better because simply wouldn't do it at all.
As for complex systems, to use one of your favorite examples, the London
Underground map is by excellence a Design for a complex system whereas
the system itself was and is still "projected" mostly by engineers.
I think that is fine that some of you are still looking at your
linguistic belly button whilst the word design colonized the world
meaning a different thing, more precise and, alas, more limited that the
overwhelming Simonesque definition and probably closer to its initial
disciplinary definition.
This was simply a case of the Murphy Law and technological arrogance.
To those who like European Football is like the Barcelona vs Real Madrid
5-0. Mourinho is the perfect football engineer until...
