medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
Greetings learned ones,
A friend is curious about traditions concerning what kind of wood the Cross was made of. She notes 18th c. and later traditions that (for example) the aspen quivers because the cross was made from it, and wonders how far
back this goes. I think there are traditions that relate it to the tree of knowledge (or tree of life?) in Eden,
but am unsure of the details, and also if a specific species of tree is mentioned. Any help would be much
appreciated!
Meg
